Today was a great fun day. It was a Team Building day, which automatically guaranteed us at least half-day off, and the other half 80% off. First quarter of the year 2013. The decision was to hike to Pantai Kerachut at Teluk Bahang, the northern point of Penang Island. While it wasn't too long or too taxing a hike, the steep steps at one point sure as hell was a pain in the ass(and legs)! Reaching the beach itself gave a small sense accomplishment, together with the fact that I wasn't the most unfit person in the group. >:) *successkid.jpg*.
After the whole event and lunch and all, we returned to office with some damn delicious cakes for tea time...which happened almost immediately as we reached office. Lol.
During our little tea time, the 5 of us engaged in a somewhat deep conversation. Deep, at least in my perspective because it was all about growing old and life crisis.
What happened was that one colleague complained that he was at a stage where he feels lost at life. Unsatisfied with the current position in life he is in, yet unsure of what the next move should be. Feeling like something's missing, yet uncertain on how to get it. Mulling over past decisions and saying things like he didn't make good choices in the beginning and if only he knew what he wanted earlier on in life. Like his life has come to a stagnant stage.
I personally felt that this is probably a stage where everyone has to go through, and it is indeed scary when you have no clue on what's next. You're stuck in a rut with not many options to help you find a way out. Unhappiness. Anxiety. Not "having a good life".
Then, another colleague, the most senior of us offered what I thought was a good piece of advice: "A good life means enjoying the various stages and process in living. Enjoying your work, enjoying your relationship, enjoying the times spent with friends. Just because you don't have something yet, doesn't mean you don't have a good life. Finding the way to get it is also a process in life. Go find something that you enjoy."
At this moment, this senior colleague of mine reminded us of something important...that is to live in the moment. The earlier mention colleague is looking forward in the future, but not in the present.
Which made me realised something important which I am going to state it down here, so as to remind myself again next time: It is important to have goals in life...but the journey to attain those goals is life itself. If the goal is unrealistic, the journey won't be a fruitful one. If you aren't enjoying the journey, then reconsider...because life would've been wasted doing things you dislike by the time you get to your goal (if you do).
The other thing our senior colleague asked us was "How much do you think you're worth? Do you think the company is being fair to what you deem is worthy of yourself? If you don't then look elsewhere..some where that can fill that worth."
I thought it was important too, because in the end... whether we are happy or not depends not on how other people sees us, but how we see ourselves. We ought to acknowledge our own worth, and live life based on that worth. Because only by fulfilling that worth will we be satisfied in life.
However, the earlier colleague also commented how "life will never be fair". This is...unfortunately in my sentiments, a fair warning. In the end, we can only live the cards dealt to us by fate. If opportunity does not present itself, then there is nothing else we can do, other than to either accept it or find another opportunity which may or may not come. However, this still doesn't mean that we have to compromise our happiness as long as the journey so far has been justified.
Basically...all my ramblings today come down to a point in life that I will soon have to make. Whether or not to stay, or to leave. My decision to come up... At first I thought it was a bad one and that I was having a miserable life of living as a nomad, missing good times with friends. But now, I've come to realised that it is a precious experience that taught and grew me a lot. Something that my friends back home will never get. I regret nothing.
For my next decision...it isn't finalised yet, but there's always a preparation for it. Keeping all the points above in mind, one day I will have to finalise it. On that day, I hope I will be happy. :)
P/s: I changed my blog link again... this time to randomekwan1.blogspot.com. A concatenation of the random theme of the blog, and my current work user ID. think I'll forever keep this unique user ID, because it's been a significant mark of my life.
